There is a buzz around the PC gaming world that there is a new type of technology that is used on experimental chips that drastically reduces the overall CPU core temperature thereby reducing or eliminating the needs of extra cooling options such as water coolers. It was created a Purdue U called ionic wind engines that reduces the overall chip temperature by increasing cooling by 200+ %. It works by having electrodes in parallel of each other. They have anodes and cathodes. The electrodes release electrons towards the anodes. The electrons combine with air to create positive ions that are redirected back to the electrodes which cause a type of ionic wind field. This wind field helps the chip overall increase airflow and therefore decrease temperatures. It is a awesome idea which will help gamers through those long hours of WOW. They can also be installed into graphics cards in the future so that you don’t have to have one eye on WoW and the other on the temperature of the graphics card!
